The IB Ball is this Saturday! Come down and have a ball at Windgate Ranch. You can buy tickets at the bookstore or Venmo @IBSA23 and pick up your tickets today for $35, or pay $40 at the door. There will be a dessert bar and a mixologist! So come down and have some fun this Saturday, January 27th!

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE: Ms.Elliot sits behind her College English class as they all talk before class begins. “Im a hands-on person, so if I can find a way to do things hand on, thats my favorite way,” said Ms. Elliot. While they are currently reading 1984 in the picture, they are also starting their final project for the quarter.

STUDENTS MASTER TRIG IDENTITIES: Classmates Audrey Workman (11), Dunkin Tisserand (11), and Jake Goar (11) are actively listening to the importance of radians and measuring radians. “I like how the class isn’t stressful, even though we are learning hard concepts, ” said Jake Goar. The students are preparing for a cumulative exam April 14.

COLLEGE BOUND: Jake Magluyan (12) writes his name and prospective college, Scottsdale Community College, on Mrs. Dorsch’s college wall. Its a great way to see where your peers end up next year Magluyan said. The college wall has been a tradition at Desert Mountain since 2020, allowing seniors to bask in their achievements and see where their peers are heading.

Mrs. Elliot playing Battleship on Battleship Mountain. Every year on New Year’s Day Mrs Elliot spends her day doing a 13-mile hike deep within the Superstitions to summit Battleship Mountain.

DECK THE HALLS: Sophomore Kara Hairston places an ornament on one of the Holiday Shrubberies in Mr. Shehs room. Two Holiday Shrubberies sat in Mr. Shehs room this finals season. These festivities show the love he has for his IB, journalism, and creative writing classes. I think it is very sweet, says Hairston. It is nice to know that he cares enough to make the classroom feel like a home, especially when finals roll around and everyone seems to be on edge. Whether or not you celebrate a holiday this time of year; it is always nice to know that your teachers care.

SUPER SUCCESS: Wolfden represents the school at DMs 74-49 victory over Arcadia. “The crowd and friends are why I go to the games, said junior Drew Kasianko, adding its some of the most fun I have. This gave gave the Wolves a five-game winning streak entering a Jan. 26 bout with arch rival Chaparral.

CREATIVE COMPOSITION: Junior Gretchen Bagby presented art she drew in Mrs. Wilkins art class and which was inside of DMs art gallery. Mrs. Wilkins says she enjoys teaching art. “It’s my joy, my joy everyday,” she said. Desert Mountain takes pride in the art of this school, and in fact various galleries and murals throughout the school display students art.

They captured the state title last month at the AIA State Qualifier Competition at Posten Butte High School.
