Wolf's Print

Rachel Mattisinko

Rachel Mattisinko, editor

Rachel is a senior at Desert Mountain and even though it is their first and last year writing for Wolfsprint, she wants to focus on stories that interest her, hoping others will appreciate it. They have no valid writing credentials whatsoever other than decent English grades. She is nervous for what she is getting into when it comes to writing for the school paper. By morning they are a student, afternoon they are an enthusiastic napper, and by night they are an employee at Pita Jungle. She has signed up for many random clubs but has mostly been involved with DECA as a member and leader over the past four years, as well as joining Tech Theatre in 2021.

They have always had a passion for writing but can be called a little rusty when it comes to storytelling since she hasn’t really written for herself since middle school. The most prominent story she wrote as a child was called, “Where the Clipped Nails go.” Rachel’s favorite book genre are thriller, gothic, dystopian, science fiction, fantasy, and theory. In the past she has surrounded herself with the classics such as Percy Jackson, Ender's Game, The Magic Treehouse and The Hunger Games. They are currently reading Cyclonopedia by Reza Negarestani and Purfume by Patrick Suskind which are definitely a contrast to the nostalgia of her childhood. She holds the highest respect for her Great Aunt Sharon who is the most inspiring person to them. Rachel also looks up to specific artists of all kinds like musicians, designers, painters, philosophers, and architects. She aspires to write about her similar passions. On her current spotify rotation is genres like shoegaze, postpunk, alternative hip hop, synthpop, jazz, electronic, and dreampop.

Rachel finds herself with endless career possibilities. Her path since elementary school has changed from astrophysicist, to teacher, to geneticist, to architect, to philosopher, to video game marketer, to fashion designer, to real estate agent, to the past few years being set on becoming an Optometrist. They plan on attending Arizona State University to study Medical Sciences. She has always been interested in chemistry, biology, physics, business, and fashion which she can incorporate all into the eyecare industry. She likes the idea of being a doctor without facing her fear of needles. Whatever she ends up doing in the near or far future she wants to be passionate about it. They will apply this ideology to their writing in the 2022-2023 Wolfsprint.
