Sophomore Jack Yampolsky, junior Isabelle Knowles, senior Megan Yarnall, and senior Carter Warner perform during Improv’s Sept. 13 performance, the troupe’s first of the year. “I’m really proud of how we’ve all come together to work as a team this year,” said Warner, co-captain of the troupe. Members of the troupe captured first place at an Improv tournament during the state Thespian Festival in November in Phoenix.

From Staff Reports

Ever wonder what the world’s worst doctor might say?

Or what a musical about sewer goblins might sound like?

Or what might happen when evolution, accelerated by climate change, robs sharks of their teeth?

Or, if you wonder none of those things and would like a few laughs, then attend ‘Love Shack’, the next performance of DMHS Player’s Improv troupe Friday, Feb. 7, in the Black Box.

“It’s like a culmination of different students who each exhibit creative tendencies on steroids,” said senior Megan Yarnall, who has been a member of the troupe for three years. “Witnessing it in person is this strange composition of what you imagine a human brain is able to do. On steroids.”

Megan Yarnall and Isabella Marias play “Narrate”, a game in which actors interrupt a scene to tell the audience facts about the scene that the other character doesn’t know. “This is my creative outlet, where quirkiness is glorified,” Yarnall said. Improv’s roots can be traced to 18th-century Europe as part of commedia dell’arte, an art form that featured comedic masks and stock characters who were thrust into classically comic scenarios.
