“You want to know which ring is my favorite? The next one,” said the greatest player of all time, Tom Brady. 

An American tradition, the final game of the season, the Super Bowl. Kansas City Chiefs vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Patrick Mahomes vs Tom Brady. In the end, the Buccaneers won 31-9. But the Buccaneers dominated on both offense and defense. 

60.7 percent of DM students voted that the Buccaneers would win. 

Patrick Mahomes, even in the midst of loss,  showed brilliance–amazing abilities that make him stand out among current and past quarterbacks. In time he may well be the G.O.A.T, but the football gods are fickle and only time will tell. When you consider all that can go wrong in football to a professional athlete, it makes Brady’s record all the more impressive. If we leave the emotions around team affiliation, hatred of the Patriots, it’s hard not to acknowledge how exceptional Brady’s career has been.

And if you’re keeping score, 60 percent of DM students voted for Tom Brady, instead of Patrick Mahomes.

Few people have lost three Super Bowls–never mind having won seven. Whether you love or hate Brady, this was an opportunity to watch history in real-time. His record with the New England Patriots is outstanding by any standards. But to then go on and play for another team and win the Super Bowl in the first year? That’s simply next level.  

Brady is breaking records at 43, and just recently signed a contract for four more years with the Buccaneers. Brady is the second oldest active player in the NFL and is still winning. Currently, he is the G.O.A.T, with the most Super Bowl rings out of any player. 

The Super Bowl halftime show featuring The Weekend, which invested $7 million of its own money into the show, provided some distraction from the game, DM students said. A plurality–28.3 percent–of DM students vote that “it was aight.” following by 21.7 percent voting that they “loved it.”

Brady also outshined this year’s commercials–which wasn’t difficult (like why was Mathew McConaughey flat, like there was no back story…?). No clear Super Bowl commercial emerged from the mediocre offerings; 15 percent of DM students voted for the ad Drake from State Farm. 

Hopefully next year the commercials will improve.

As we look forward to next year’s Super Bowl our poll shows that DM believes that the Super Bowl LVI will be played between the Patriots and the Buccaneers. 

We’ll just have to wait and see.
