Yasmine Burka, Writer
Yasmine Burka is a junior at Desert Mountain High School who joined freshman year from another state. An artistically motivated student whether it be telling stories through digital art or creative writing. She has always been interested in languages as she comes from a Moroccan background, which consists of French and Arabic, so she is well versed in hearing different words, even though she is not quite fluent yet.(hopefully someday). Though she always had an interest in finding different ways to express her words through writing in English. She hopes and anticipates this club will help her put herself out there by sharing her unique perspective that can apply to the community and fellow students. Firstly introduced when she picked up a book called “I Am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai herself, depicting a traumatic event she experienced where she felt the need to speak up about a corrupt group for the sake of girls deprived of their right to education. Malala further speaks about what she believes stating, “a pen can give life”. Yasmine, encouraged by Malala’s powerful writing and voice on rights as she did not know that this would motivate her to address important things and present an inspiring image through writing for students. Yasmine has a love for exploring new perspectives and she would like to share this with the school community. Her goals are to hopefully get published to an article with her creative writings as she gains new skills for the future. An aspiring writer and occasional over-thinker, she plans to add creativity and flair to the wolf’s print.
