Sophie Seratte, Reporter
Sophie has spent her whole life with her nose in a book and a pen in her hand. She grew up on the Harry Potter series, which sparked her love of literature, and as kids she and her sister would tag-team to make illustrated stories for their parents. Her all-time favorite book is Paul Cohen’s The Alchemist because of its extensive use of metaphors and deceptively simple language to pose complex questions about the nature of the universe. She has found that she can learn something new about herself each time she reads it, and she envies the simplicity of Santiago’s life as a shepherd lost in the vastness of the Sahara desert. More of Sophie’s favorite books include Bone Gap by Laura Ruby, Vicious by V. E. Schwab, and All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
This is Sophie’s first year as a member of Wolf’s Print, but she has always enjoyed writing. She has been a part of Inkblot in the past and is currently taking Creative Writing as her elective. Her favorite genre of writing is poetry, and she has participated in the 2022-2023 Scholastic Art and Writing competition, her poetry earning a Gold Key award on the regional level and a Silver Medal award nationally.
After graduation, Sophie is considering a career in education because she hopes to be able to give other young people a space to find themselves and their interests. Whatever she decides to do, she wants to keep writing on the side because it has become an important creative outlet for her.
Sophie hopes to use her role in Wolf’s Print this year to bring light to all the awesome activities at Desert Mountain and give students a chance to tell the stories they feel need to be heard. Anyone with story ideas can reach out to @[email protected].
