Wolf's Print

Sayde Neubeck, Reporter

Sayde Neubeck is a sophomore at Desert Mountain High School, aiming toward the University of Michigan to study clinical and school psychology. Previously, she attended Saguaro High School and wrote for their newspaper – The Sinbad Times – focusing on the advice column. She's very excited to start writing for the Wolf's Print, as she's been in love with writing since Ms. York from 1st grade had her write her thoughts down every day.

Sayde's lived in Arizona with her mom and younger half-brother her whole life, and has been visiting the rest of her family in Michigan every summer and winter. She likes to think Michigan has played a huge role in her passion for writing: edgy-middle-school-Sayde wrote horror stories inside Michigan's forests, detailed setting descriptions of the snow-covered Mackinac Island, taking inspiration from the animals in her grandparents' yard and the flora behind her dad's house. From her younger elementary years, Sayde can vividly remember writing stories with her friends on the playground and illustrating them together, then sharing them with their friends, family, teachers, and classmates. She's always been obsessed with making up characters and, oddly, putting them through unfortunate events. This keenness toward tragic backstories likely stems from her love for murder mystery thriller novels; her favorite author is Natasha Preston, but she's recently started branching out to more dystopian novels and historical fictions.

At Laguna Elementary School, Sayde won the school spelling bee and went to district in 5th grade, then went again in 8th grade at Mountainside Middle School. In 6th grade, she joined the 8th grade writing club, then took over as president two years later. She was chosen to give a speech to 5th grade parents, and again later that year to give a speech to the whole of Mountainside inside Desert Mountain's auditorium. She's entered multiple playwriting competitions since freshman year and has been casted in numerous plays. As a freshman, she was part of the ensemble for Saguaro's Beauty and the Beast: the Musical; this year she was Desert Mountain's caterpillar in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. On top of being a Wolf's Print writer, she's a member of the school's Drama Club and thespian troupe, MedImpact group, and Ad Hoc committee.

Sayde Neubeck is extremely passionate about writing – especially nonfiction as of late – so she's looking forward to writing for the Wolf's Print. She's excited to see the newspaper's new Q&A feature and Instagram account begin, and she hopes to be there to see the newspaper grow and flourish.
