Lola Black, Vice President
Lola Black is a new member of Wolf’s Print and a current Junior at DM. This is her first year at the school after moving to Scottsdale over the summer from a quaint and rural 4,000-resident town in Mid-coast Maine. Lola has had a love of writing and creating all her life. She is the current main-editor of the yearbook and an at-home artist, with a particular love for sketching and drawing, taking inspiration from whatever is around her. She loves experimenting with new creative outlets, including dabbling in metalsmithing and darkroom photography.
Her mother is one of her biggest inspirations in life and is also a writer for a government agency by profession. She has inspired and taught her everything she knows about crafting creative stories and writing through an academic lens. She fondly remembers her love of reading and writing developing while “reading” the newspaper with her mom every Sunday, even if at that age that simply meant leafing through the pages and stopping to admire the wedding section. In addition to writing, she and her mom also share a love for Gilmore Girls. Lola’s favorite character is Paris as she connects with her independent and driven nature and is inspired by her often insane but wild ambition. She loves authors and stories that examine how people connect and interact with one another, some of her favorites being author John Green and the books: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak, and Normal People by Sally Rooney.
Further, she has always had an interest in current events and policy. She has been volunteering through canvassing and phone banking for various political campaigns on the local, state, and national levels since she was eight years old and continues to be involved in local politics. She is currently interning with a Northern Valley political organization during their sessions. She loves engaging with and working to improve her local community and loves how policy offers her a place to do so.
Lola plans on moving back to the East Coast for college and sees herself studying something within the greater liberal arts field. She is super excited to be a part of Wolf’s Print this year! You can reach her on Instagram, @lolajblack
