Alpha Nieverene Canonoy, Writer
It may be Alpha Canonoy’s first time doing Wolf’s Print but it is her fourth year at Desert Mountain. She’s relatively new to creative writing, but she has always been interested in reading and writing in general, constantly picking up interesting reads. For example, the book Flowers for Algernon really inspired Alpha to take care of those with neurological conditions, especially since she and her parents are caretakers of her disabled sister. Flowers for Algernon flipped the switch for Alpha sophomore year, causing her desire to major in neuroscience. Helping people out has always been a huge wish in her life, causing her to join clubs like Unicef and Amnesty during her high school years. The Great Gatsby was a masterpiece to sophomore year Alpha. She even proposed it as a homecoming theme! She loved rereading it in junior year AP Lang and analyzing it even further. The book is indeed extremely popular but Alpha finds most of the themes expressed in the book from the Roaring 20’s can still be applied to this modern day. As of right now, Alpha is in the process of reading A Little Life. Reading fiction is fun for Alpha because she can imagine herself in these otherworldly plots, but she also finds value in reading nonfiction well because she ends up learning valuable information about the world around her. In Wolf’s Print, Alpha hopes to become a more thoughtful writer with the articles she will create under Student Life and general articles in her first year of Wolf’s Print and last year at Desert Mountain. She also hopes she’ll get some good book recommendations from her peers!
